the random dancing thought

So I put some hype, singable, danceable songs on Spotify and just started dancing randomly. As one does.

And for some bloody reason the Spotify algorithm was not recommending shit properly. I mean I guess there is no algorithm at this point, idk ;-; It just wasn’t hitting that same vibe.

And I thought, what if. What if Spotify knew there was no one at home, and that’s why I’m doing this? What if Spotify had access to my family’s locations, my account, the sort of things I’m going through right now? Imagine how great that algorithm would be. Just imagine for a second.

Why Do We Even Protect Our Data

See, this is something I’ve given thought to randomly time to time. This is me just putting it into words for the first time lol.

But why? Why protect your data? Why have this privacy? It’s because we don’t trust these companies on what they would do with your data. That’s all.

But I feel like, in a perfect world (we will never get there lol), imagine we can trust these companies for sure. And we can provide this sort of data carefree, fully over. Imagine how much the user experience would grow. Your YouTube recommendations get better. Your search recommendations get better. Not just recommendations, but just subtle day-to-day activities get a better experience.

It’s crazy to think. But I feel like that would be such an ideal world. Your software would be so smart. It would be truly intelligent. It would know what you want. It could even read your bloody mind to a certain extent.

I mean, of course we got GDPR and all of them rules, so it will never happen. But I’m just putting this out there.

The Actual Interesting Part

I feel like this is a really interesting problem to work on. How can you be compliant and still share data with these companies?

This sort of full data access can help companies, users, the entire stack. It’s just compliance and trust that’s holding us back. Would be something really worth exploring some day.

But for now, just sharing out my random dancing thought lol :)
