slaves to the network latency

So this entire thing started off with me staring into that lil word in Claude Code. “Transfiguring.” “Pouncing.” Whatever it is. And guess what, I actually can remember these fucking names. That’s the funniest part here, because for some fucking reason these things take so long to “think,” even when I tell it to just comment out this small part, or even delete a file. And I’m just like bruh lmao.

The Slave to Compute

So the thing is, I realized a few things.

Think about how sad it has become. The current SE or tech market as a whole, as far as I know. The orgs, the people who use Claude. They literally are a “slave” to compute, in the sense of how slow that GPU, probably sitting in Utah, is taking. And the network latency between your computer and that data center. And all that shit it has to go through.

It’s sad to see. Is this what we have become? Is this the life we wanted to live when we wanted to become software engineers? Or whatever. For me? Not really.

We Are the Waiting Machines

But that network call thing, that’s kind of what makes me think the most.

We really are just waiting machines. Our fucking time, worthless. It’s literally like an async await loop. We’re just waiting for the Claude reply.

It’s sad. But it’s really the reality, I suppose. A cycle of dopamine. A cycle of the modern workforce.
